Charges on Your Bill | |||||||||||||||||||||
The City has invested over $100 million in water and sewer infrastructure in the last 15 years, producing some of the safest, cleanest most reliable water in Western Canada. We have done this while keeping water bills the second lowest in the province. Your water utility bill includes flat rates and consumption charges for the amount of water you use. Flat charges are used to pay for the construction and upkeep of the City's water and sewer infrastructure. This includes the replacement and maintenance of hundreds of kilometers of water, sewer and storm pipes, water reservoirs, water meters, water treatment plant, raw water pumphouse, sewage lift stations and the sewer treatment plant. Water consumption charges are based on the amount of water you use. These charges help pay for the operation of the water and sewer system including the staff to repair water and sewer lines and run the water and sewer treatment plants. See the section below to learn more about how to reduce charges on your water utility bill. Your bill also includes a monthly sanitation fee which pays for curbside garbage, recycling and yard waste pick up.
