The next civic/school board election will take place in November 2028. More details for candidates and voters will be posted once available. See below for general information on candidacy. General elections in Saskatchewan are held every four years. Elections are held in order to elect a mayor and 8 councillors, one for each of the City’s 8 wards. The City of Prince Albert also conducts the in-City elections for both the Prince Albert Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division No. 119 and the Prince Albert Catholic School Division No. 6 in order to elect their respective trustees.

Becoming a Candidate
Below are general guidelines for those interested in running for the office of a member of City Council or School Board Trustee. Closer to the Election in 2024 a complete Candidate Guide will be prepared and made available.
Qualifications for candidates |
A person may run for the office of a member of City Council or School Board Trustee if he/she:
Candidates for Councillor do not have to reside within the ward in which they are running; however, all of the people nominating the candidate must be electors of the ward. In the case of School Board elections, you must be a voter of the school division on the day of the election, to be nominated as a candidate. In the case of a separate school division election, an eligible nominator must be a voter of the separate school division in accordance with Subsection (36)(2) of The Local Government Election Act, 2015. |
Disqualifications for candidates |
You may not run for the office of City Council, if you are:
An employee of The City, Board or Joint Board, may seek nomination if he/she has first obtained a leave of absence in accordance with Subsection 2-54(2)(a) of The Saskatchewan Employment Act. |
