We suggest that one (1) week advance notice be given prior to opening or closing an account with the City.
Opening a water account for renters:
If you are a renter, you must apply for a utility account in person at City Hall. You will need two pieces of identification to apply for a new account (for example, a Driver's License and a Secure Certificate of Indian Status card.) We also require proof of tenancy which can be either a copy of your rental/lease agreement or a Proof of Tenancy Form filled out by your landlord.
We collect a $250.00 refundable deposit and a $15.00 non-refundable service connection fee to open a new account.
If you are a renter and you are moving to a new address in Prince Albert, any overdue balances must be paid before your services can be set up at your new address. The deposit for your previous address will be applied to the final bill for that property and if a credit remains on your account, a refund cheque will be sent to you.
Opening a water account for homeowners:
If you are the owner of a home, you can apply for an application either in person or over the phone. The cost to open an account is a $15.00 non-refundable service fee.
If you are moving to a new address in Prince Albert:
If you have a utility account at an address in Prince Albert and you are moving to another address in Prince Albert, you will follow the same steps for a new account. Please see above for the process for renters and homeowners.
Opening an account for multi-unit dwellings and commercial addresses:
If you require service for a multi-unit dwelling or commercial address, please call 306-953-4340
Closing an account:
Notification (either by phone, email, or mail) must be given prior to the date on which service is to be terminated. If you notify us after the last day you require coverage, we will be unable to backdate the termination.
Please be sure to provide us with a forwarding address so that we can send your final bill or refund to you.
Request a Temporary Shut-Off
To request a temporary shut-off, please call the Water Department to book an appointment.
Temporary shut-offs are not done on the last working day of the week. The fees for a temporary shut off are as follows:
June 1 – November 30 - $50.00
December 1 – May 31 - $150.00
Note: Fees are payable with your next utility bill.
