Garage and yard sales do not require a permit or license, but must meet the requirements in the Zoning Bylaw.
Who can have a sale?
The resident of a property in a residential zone where the sale is being held, or a non-profit or similar group in any institutional zone.
How many sales can I have in a year?
You can have three sales per year.
How long can I have my sale for?
You can have a sale for up to three consecutive days.
What if I would like to have a sale longer than three days?
You can have a sale for up to nine days by stacking the three allowed three-day sales together. For example, if you held a four day sale, it would count as one, three day sale, and one, one day sale.
Where can I put up signs?
- You cannot place signs on public property such as boulevards, curb side trees, street light standards, public signage, public mailboxes, or intersections.
- You can place signs on private property as long as the property owner has given you permission.
- You must take down the signs at the end of the sale.
What if I notice someone is having more sales than allowed?
Any concerns can be reported to Bylaw Enforcement.
