A moving permit is issued free of charge and is meant to inform operators of larger vehicles of the best route through the City to avoid any road restrictions. Additional permits are required to move over sized loads (including farm equipment) or buildings into and out of the City. Those travelling within the City multiple times may request to be added to the Road Closure email list to find out about ongoing and future road closures.
All vehicles permitted to travel within the City are required to follow our General Permit Requirements.
General Requirements
It is the responsibility of the permit holder to:
- Obtain permission from Carlton Trail Railway, SaskTel, SaskPower, with respect to overhead structure.
- Obtain necessary permits and/or permission from the Department of Highways if travelling on their roads.
- Obey limits issued by the Director of Public Works or Ministry of Highways to limit the weight to less than a normal load.
- Obtain an Over Sized Load Permit when load width is over 6.7m (22') or the height is over 5.5m (18').
- Obtain a Building Moving Permit when moving a building onto or off a property within the City of Prince Albert.
- Adjust your route accordingly when notified of a road restriction on your route (sign up on the subscribe page)
- Pay for any costs associated with accommodating the load through the City of Prince Albert, including but not limited to:
- temporary parking restrictions,
- moving on street infrastructure such as traffic lights or signs,
- providing additional escort etc., and
- permit fees.
- Travel through the City of Prince Albert during off peak hours. The following times during weekdays are restricted for travel through the City of Prince Albert.
7:30am – 9:30am
11:30am – 1:30pm
4:30pm – 6:30pm
Farm Equipment
Must obtain an Over Sized Permit when over 6.7m (22') wide or over 5.5m (18') tall.
Moving Permit |
All Vehicles with dimensions greater than those listed below require a moving permit to travel through or within the City of Prince Albert. Width > 2.6m (8.53') Height > 4.15m (13.5') Weight > 63,500kg

Over Sized Permit |
Over sized permits are required in addition to Moving Permit when load dimensions are over:
Drawings with dimensions of the load are required. Approval will be based on whether the load can be accommodated within City infrastructure (such as Traffic Lights and Signs) beside and above the roadway. Please allow 2 business days for approval.
Cost of an oversized permit is $20. |
Building Moving Permit |
A Building Moving Permit is required in addition to moving permit when moving a building onto or off of City Property. Drawings with dimensions of the load are required. Approval will be based on whether the building can be accommodated within City Infrastructure (such as Traffic Lights and Signs) beside and above the roadway, as well as proof of a Building Permit or Demolition Permit. Please allow for 2 business days for approval.
Cost of building moving permit is $20. |
Diefenbaker Bridge
The Diefenbaker Bridge is the only bridge crossing the North Saskatchewan River at Prince Albert Saskatchewan.
Loads wider than:
- 22' wide - require an Over Sized Load Permit to cross the Diefenbaker Bridge.
- 24' wide - require a City supplied escort to restrict opposing traffic when travelling across the bridge. Contact Public Works at (306) 953-4900 to arrange for escort.
Safe Single Trip Limits for the Diefenbaker Bridge are as follows.
- 7 axle - 86,000kg's
- 8 axle – 94,100kg's
- 9 axle – 94,100kg's
- There is Absolutely No Access for any load over 94,100kg's.
Alternate River Crossings (Require permission from Department of Highways to use these crossings)
- Petrofka Bridge – Highway 12 (South of Blaine Lake)
- Cecil Ferry – Highway 55 (East of Prince Albert)
- Melfort Bridge – Highway 6 (North of Melfort)
