What is an easement?
An easement is an area on a property where utility lines are constructed underground or for storm water drainage.
How do I know if I have an easement on my property?
You can check on your property Title to see if any easements have been registered from a utility company (e.g. SaskPower) or the City of Prince Albert by contacting Information Services Corporation. Depending on how old your home is, the easement may show on your Surveyor's Certificate or Real Property Report.
Where is an easement located on my property?
If your property has a back lane, you will not have an easement. However, you may still have utility lines that run underneath your property.
If your property has no back lane, you may have an easement that runs along the rear 3 metres of your property or along the side of your property.
Can I build on an easement?
No.
How do I find underground utilities if my property has a back lane?
You can contact Sask 1st Call.
