The City of Prince Albert has a productive year planned with a number of projects scheduled for the 2021 construction season. As an arterial roadway, the work planned for 15th Street East from 1st Avenue to 6th Avenue, while not the largest project of the year, is expected to be the most disruptive for motorists.
In advance of the project starting on June 7, 2021, the City would like to provide details on the project approach for those looking to plan their route during the 9 week project.
The project will include:
- Street widening to include a 3rd lane in both directions of travel;
- Construction of new curbs and gutters;
- Milling an repaving;
- Partial reconstruction of business accesses on 15th Street
- New Signalized Intersection at 4th Avenue East. Installation of medians
- Reconfiguration of intersection at 5th Avenue East. Installation of medians.
- Crown utility upgrades in both boulevards.
It is the City's intention to maintain one lane of eastbound and westbound traffic throughout the project, however, to ease congestion along the thoroughfare, those that do not require business access, should consider alternate routes as much as possible.
The work will occur in 9 work zones with only one (1) of the work zones in place at a given time. Each work zone will have different implications for traffic flow on the street and business access. Businesses have been notified of the work and have been encouraged to work together to accommodate access for customers while work zones are in place.
Construction will begin with Work Zone 1 on Monday, June 7, 2021 which impacts eastbound traffic from 1st to 3rd Avenue. Road Closure notices will be issued before moving to a new work zone. To check on the current work zone in place, please visit www.citypa.ca/roadclosures
