Prince Albert City Council will consider the proposed concept design for the large Arena and Event Centre at the City Council meeting on Monday, August 16, 2021. A report from the Aquatic and Arenas Recreation Project Steering Committee is recommending the approval Horseshoe Level 2 Concept. .
The main concept design feature for the large arena is the shape of the facility. The Horseshoe 2-level concept is preferred because:
- Most seats are as close as possible to the sport floor;
- Seating is good for concerts because of amphitheater shape;
- Minimal seat loss for end stage concert;
- Ample back of house space;
- No parking stalls will be lost with this design; and
- Smallest long span distance for high roof structure means it is more cost-effective.
"The steering committee heard from the consultants on the proposed design and it was an obvious choice which option was superior," said Mayor Greg Dionne. “It's by far the most popular design for similar facilities."
Once approved, the next step for the Large Arena and Event Centre is the schematic design where more detail will be developed for the layout of the facility.
