The Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division and the City of Prince Albert are once again partnering to upgrade the Parks and Recreation amenities at Prime Minister’s Park.
Sask Rivers has approved an increased scope for the upgrades to Max Clunie Field, which will include the replacement of the Natural Turf with an Artificial Turf surface. This is in addition to their 50% share to replace the Harry Jerome Track. The City of Prince Albert will cover the other 50% share through a joint-use agreement for the maintenance & operation of Prime Minister’s Park.
Prince Albert City Council approved a recommendation on Tuesday, September 5th2023, that the City’s portion of $750,000 be paid from the Future Infrastructure Reserve in support of the Harry Jerome Track Replacement.
“We are pleased the Board is able to assist all Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division students and families with this excellent opportunity for sports, culture and learning for many years to come. The long-term benefits for athletes and the community will be second to none. We continue to strive for excellence for every learner, and we believe this will have many benefits for our students and the community because of the project,” says Darlene Rowden, Board Chair for the Sask Rivers School Division
"Upgrading the Harry Jerome track will bolster our ability to draw a greater number of events. Our consistent investments in our facilities in recent years have already resulted in an increased presence of tournaments and championships in our City. The partnership between both parties on this project serves as a major improvement to Prime Minister’s Park, which will benefit local organizations and attract major events in the future to Prince Albert," says Mayor Greg Dionne.
The City of Prince Albert and the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division have jointly built, operated, and funded Prime Minister’s Park for many years through a joint-use agreement dating back to the 1970s.
