Prince Albert, SK – The core area of Little Red River Park will open tomorrow morning, Wednesday, June 26, 2024, following a closure due to rising water levels of the Spruce River. The main entrance from Highway 55 will be open, the Pine Grove Entrance Gate will remain closed.
The park was closed recently following advisement from the Water Security Agency (WSA) that water levels at Anglin Lake were 9” above safe levels and to protect the integrity of the dam they completed a draw-down of the water. The WSA was predicting outflow approaching what was observed in 2013.
The Park was closed as a precaution to ensure the safety of guests and users of the park. River levels remain higher than normal but peak flows have been experienced and it is now considered safe to allow the public back into the space. As always, the City urges guests to use caution and to stay clear of the river when visiting the Park.
Early indications are that the banks of the river have held up. Inspections will occur as water levels recede.
