Statistics Canada has announced that the 2021 Census is now underway and the City of Prince Albert is calling upon all residents to complete their census and declare their home as Prince Albert.
"For every person counted, we receive more funding through federal and provincial per-capita funding programs," said Mayor Greg Dionne. "If we all do our part to be counted we could see an increase of hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding each year."
Census packages are being delivered to households across Canada this week with an access code. Residents can use that code to complete their census online at www.census.gc.ca.
Additional funding received goes to pay for important services for Prince Albert's residents. The more people counted, the more funding the City receives to pay for:
- arenas and pools;
- build parks and playgrounds;
- repair streets;
- deliver safe drinking water;
- support our arts programs and museums; and
- pay for fire protection and policing.
The City will be encouraging census participation throughout the month of May include a Facebook promotion, video message from members of City Council and a promotion specifically for schools.
