A tentative agreement has been reached between the City of Prince Albert and CUPE Local 882. After 49 days of strike action and 17 days of a full withdrawal of services, the membership will be voting on a package Friday that is within the 11.5% mandate originally set by the Employer. If ratified, a date will be set for a return to work.
The agreement includes the original 11% general wage increase over four years and the original targeted adjustments to lowest paid employees to bring them above annual increased minimum wage mandates set by the province.
New to the agreement is cost shared vision care for permanent employees and optional coverage for non-permanent employees to join the cost shared Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP). The Memorandum of Agreement also includes a commitment to negotiate a salary supplement process for employee groups that are difficult to recruit.
The total value of the employer contribution for new items is approximately $1,200/year. The value of the 11.5% mandate is $1.185 million over the four year contract. The settlement reached is well within this dollar value.
“The last several months have been very challenging and I am glad we have been able to find a resolve within our original mandate,” said Mayor Greg Dionne. “I would like to thank the citizens of Prince Albert for their patience and support throughout this process as the City worked to limit tax increases.”
“The tentative agreement is well within our original mandate of 11.5% which was our primary concern. This was always a good deal and this same deal was available to them before the strike,” said Kiley Bear, Director of Corporate Services for the City of Prince Albert. “We look forward to welcoming employees back once they ratify the vote."
The agreement will cover a four year term ending December 31, 2025.
