The City of Prince Albert Snow Operations team is set to begin grading residential streets early in 2025.
“This time of year, ruts in residential areas can create challenges,” said Geoff Soderberg, Acting Roadways Manager for the City of Prince Albert. “Grading helps smooth out these ruts, but the trade-off is the formation of windrows—snow piles stored along the sides of the streets—which can narrow roadways. We ask residents to stagger their parked vehicles to ensure safe two-way traffic while we work to improve overall road conditions.”
Important Notes for Residents:
- Look out for no parking signs in your area and remove parked vehicles on the street to make grading easy and safe for our crew and the public. Vehicles that have not been moved will be ticketed and/or towed.
- Snow ridge on your driveway: Every effort is made to ensure that windrows are not left on driveways. A loader follows the grader operator to remove windrows. Allow some time before reporting the issue to ensure the second operator has time to clear the driveway. If a windrow is greater than 6 inches, crews will return to have it removed. Report driveway windrows here.
- Windrows: If you hire a contractor to remove a windrow from your property, please note that subsequent grading will use the same space for snow storage.
- Follow Progress: Stay updated on residential grading progress by using the City’s Snow Operations Map.
- Frequency: Residential roads in Prince Albert are typically graded twice per winter season, depending on snowfall.
- Stagger vehicles on narrow roads to allow other road users and emergency services access.
