The 18th WBSC Men's Softball World Cup Group B kicks off Wednesday in Prince Albert, inviting fans to join the excitement at Prime Ministers Park. Running from July 10 to July 14, this prestigious tournament features six top international teams vying for a coveted spot in the 2025 Finals, also to be hosted here in Prince Albert.
The opening ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 10 at Prime Ministers Park.
For the next three days, residents will be able to watch world-class softball with the best teams, including reigning champions and top contenders, cheer on local heroes Team Canada as they face international rivals on home soil, and enjoy a festive atmosphere featuring food trucks, live bands, activities for all ages, and fireworks—organizers encourage early arrival as there is no assigned seating.
“This is my fifth World Cup as a head coach, and this year, we have a good mix of veterans and first-time players. Our goal in the end is to be playing the final game on Sunday. We don't want our players to think this is a tryout for next year, so we want everyone's focus on this event," says John Stuart, Canada's Head Coach
"We have to thank our organizing committee because people don't realize they've worked on this project for years, and the biggest credit I give them is just to build this facility because what this facility has done is lifted up our children and our youth," said Greg Dionne, Mayor of Prince Albert. "We have so many tournaments now in this facility from all over our province... And this puts our city on the map... because for the next week, the spotlight will be on Prince Albert, the third largest city in Saskatchewan, and we're very proud of that. You have to remember: You cannot spell paradise without PA."
