Newly Expanded Inclusive Playground Re-Opens With Additional 7,000 Square Feet of Playground Space
Prince Albert, Sask. –
Malcolm Jenkins, owner of Canadian Tire and local philanthropist, was on site today to announce the grand re-opening of Alfred’s Playground, the Jumpstart inclusive playground located at the Alfred Jenkins Field House.
Jenkins was the driving force behind the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Inclusive Playground at the Alfred Jenkins Field House that opened in June 2019. Response to the playground was extremely positive with children and parents making special trips to enjoy the unique playground. Given such a positive reception, Jenkins recommended a 7,000 square foot expansion to the west and north of the original structure, which offers a broader range of activities for any child or person regardless of their ability.
The new elements include swings, a spinner, 2 crab trap apparatus for climbing, global motion, a large Netplex structure and a we-go-round. The surfacing is the red rubberized material identical to the original playground.
“This playground is an incredible attraction offering residents a free, accessible space to drop-in for physical play,” said Mayor Greg Dionne. “I’m grateful for the major contributions of Malcolm Jenkins that made this project possible.”
This expansion will make the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Playground at the Alfred Jenkins Field House over 17,000 square feet, one of the largest playgrounds in Canada.
Jenkins has contributed $400,000 to the $725,000 expansion project with the remaining $325,000 coming from the Provincial government’s Municipal Economic Enhancement Program (MEEP).
