The City of Prince Albert is proud to announce the official opening of the Midtown Community Centre Spray and Play Park on August 29, 2024. This eagerly anticipated community space has been developed at a cost of $650,000 with the generous support of the City of Prince Albert – $158,075 and the Canada Community-Building Fund – $491,925. Construction began in mid-May of 2024, and we are pleased to announce that the spray pad and playground features are now complete and ready for public use.
“I am excited to see this new playground addition to the neighbourhood. We are happy to have a space for families and kids to play and enjoy for years to come," said Tony Head, City Councillor for Ward 3.
The new Spray and Play Park offers a wide range of exciting amenities for residents of all ages. The 2,856-square-foot spray pad features a Dynamic Zone, Family Zone, and Tot Zone, with the Verosplash Ball serving as a highlight—a centrepiece that makes a big splash!
The adjacent playground spans 4,370 square feet and has a custom ship-themed design. Children can explore the Crowsnest, steer the Ship Wheel, slide down the Double Swoosh Slide, climb the Ship Bow Chain Climber, and much more. Additional features include the Wiggle Ladder, Oodle Swing, picnic tables, benches, and a sunshade, ensuring family comfort and convenience. New lighting has also been installed to allow for extended playtime as the days grow shorter in the fall.
“This is the seventh playground we have updated in the City of Prince Albert over the last four years, and we are always happy to see it come to fruition. Playgrounds add so much value to our neighbourhoods, and the Midtown Community Centre Spray and Play Park have been built with legacy in mind, offering an enjoyable space for play and recreation,” says Tim Yeaman, Parks and Open Spaces Manager for the City of Prince Albert
During the summer, the park will also serve as a hub for playground programming, providing even more opportunities for fun and community engagement. While some construction on the pathways surrounding the play structures will continue, with completion expected in the spring of 2025, the decision to open the park ensures that families still use it while summer and fall linger.
The Midtown Community Centre Play and Spray Park was identified for replacement through the State of Playgrounds Program, adopted by City Council in 2019. This program was designed to prioritize capital investments to refurbish and replace outdated play spaces throughout the city through strategic partnerships, grants, and City funding.
