Prince Albert’s economic development is leading the province. This was the emerging theme during Mayor Greg Dionne’s of the City Address today in a gathering hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. Attended by over 300 business community leaders, the event featured distinguished guests such as Minister Joe Hargrave, the Minister of SaskBuilds and Procurement and MLA for Prince Albert Carlton, and local developer and entrepreneur Ken Malenfant.
"The increasing project list shows that developers and investors are drawn to Prince Albert. Ongoing and upcoming developments highlight the city's commitment to economic growth and community improvement. Our City's Economic Development is leading in construction per capita for the next three years, affirming the city's growth," said Mayor Dionne
In his speech, Mayor Dionne highlighted the following investments:
The upcoming Victoria Hospital Expansion will bring 500 new specialized jobs, contributing to an increased community population. In a media release by the Province on Feb 1, 2024, it was announced that The Prince Albert Victoria Hospital project was awarded to PCL Construction Management Inc. (PCL). The value of the construction contract is $898 million.
Projects recently completed or currently under construction at a total cost exceeding $700 million include:
- The Yard: Completed 120-unit Holiday Inn Express.
- The Yard: Aquatic and Arenas Recreation Centre.
- The Yard: 10,000 sq ft strip mall with six lease spaces.
- Toyota Dealership and Showroom (nearly 20,000 sq ft).
- Large addition to Econo Lumber (13,267 sq ft).
- CIBC Bank at new Cornerstone location (just over 6,000 sq ft).
- Gary Brar Investments – 3 apartment structures totalling 180 units.
Projects anticipated in 2024, 2025, and 2026:
- The Yard District:
- Event Centre.
- 40,000 sq ft 4-storey office complex.
- Two car dealerships.
- 18,000 sq ft grocery store.
- 100-unit brand hotel with a 4,000 sq ft liquor store.
- 4-storey complex with a restaurant on the lower level.
- Gas station and convenience store.
- Fast-food chains.
- An Urban 42-unit RV park is planned around the retention pond.
- Other upcoming projects:
- Metis Nation building with daycare and office space (26,866 sq ft).
- Urban Reserve - a new 6,000 sq ft child and family services building and a separate complex to replace the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre.
- YWCA – 20-unit apartment building (5,306 sq ft).
- 16-suite unit apartment replacing the one that burnt on Albright (7,212 sq ft).
- First Nations University.
- Francophone School.
