There has been a lot of speculation recently about a huge manufacturing business announcement for Prince Albert and area in recent weeks.
The Mayor’s Office can confirm that there has been ongoing discussions with a brand new group of investors for a brand new manufacturing production facility in the forestry sector, for Prince Albert and area. The negotiating team includes Mayor Dionne as the lead, supported by a team which includes City Administration and members of Prince Albert Regional Economic Development Alliance.
“It’s an exciting opportunity,” said Don Fyrk, the Reeve of RM of Buckland and member of PAREDA. “It will benefit the entire region and I am looking forward to working with the new company.”
Prince Albert and northern Saskatchewan has the potential to benefit from the expected 750 plus jobs. “I would like to thank the Premier and our MLAs for their support in getting the project this far,” said Mayor Greg Dionne. “With the potential 750 plus jobs that could be created in Prince Albert and area, the economic boost and positive impact from the forestry manufacturing sector could be huge. We are talking about careers that have above average wages. With these careers you will be able to buy a house, upgrade your property and buy a new vehicle.”
Dionne adds, “We are encouraged by the preliminary discussions surrounding the quality of the sustainable forest management with the brand new stakeholders and look forward to further detailed discussions once the election process is complete.”
In light of the current elections being held locally, as well as across the province and the ongoing discussions regarding this venture, we advise that there will be no further comments on this business announcement until after all the provincial and civic elections are complete and the elected officers are sworn in to their respective jurisdictions.
“We have to be respectful of the election process,” said Dionne. “Provincial operations are on hold which is why this is all we can say at this time.” Reeve Don Fyrk echoed Mayor Dionne and indicated, “The RM of Buckland is excited to share more information with the public after the elections are over.”
Once the entire election process is complete, Prince Albert will be in a better position to answer every inquiry surrounding this major manufacturing opportunity.
“Prince Albert has long awaited a manufacturing opportunity that would benefit all and create higher than average paying jobs for the families of Prince Albert and area,” says Mayor Greg Dionne. “I look forward to sharing more detail in the future.”
