The City of Prince Albert is pleased to announce the gradual expansion of services at the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre (LCCLC) as part of its phased opening. Now 99% complete, the facility will be introduced to the public in stages to ensure a smooth transition. The City received the keys at the end of February and is preparing to roll out programming and facility access over the coming months.
“We're currently hiring staff and moving in furniture. We’re working on safety protocols and signage, and yes, a phone number for our new facility! All of this started once we got the keys,” shared Jody Boulet, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture. “We can't wait to welcome residents and visitors to this amazing facility, and we truly appreciate everyone's patience as we open everything up in stages.”
Preparing for Public Access
City staff and contractors will cohabit in the facility over the next few months as some finishing touches are completed. Current tasks include:
- Thorough cleaning from top to bottom
- Installation of networking infrastructure
- Installation of regulatory and wayfinding signage
- Finishing touches throughout the facility
- Implementation of security measures and safety protocols
Birthday party bookings, concession services, and vending machines will not be immediately available and commercial space within the facility is still under development, with operations anticipated to begin in the fall.
Ice Rinks are open for bookings
Ice calendars are now available online, with bookings starting March 31, 2025. Spring skating camps and ice rentals can be booked by calling 306-953-4848, and availability can be viewed through citypa.perfectmind.com for the North Rink and South Rink.
During spring skating camps, the facility will be open weekdays after 4:00 p.m. and weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Aquatics programming to roll out in phases
The aquatics facility will gradually open to ensure adequate training and public safety. Lifeguard training sessions are scheduled for March and April. Public programs like lane swimming, aquacise and public swimming in limited numbers will open up later in the spring to support ongoing lifeguard training.
As always, the Kinsmen Water Park (KWP) is set to open in the first week of June. The LCCLC aquatic facility will temporarily close during the KWP season for annual maintenance during July and August before fully reopening in the fall. It is standard for indoor pools to remain closed for yearly maintenance for up to 6 weeks, and this will coincide with the KWP season each year to ensure that aquatic programming is available year-round.
The City anticipates full operation of the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre by fall 2025, with a grand opening event planned for late August or early September.
