Following a decision from CUPE 882 to halt the ratification vote and destroy ballots on Friday, the City of Prince Albert is still awaiting a decision on the tentative agreement that was reached.
Despite claims that the City violated the Employment Act by creating a call centre, there was no such violation. The union characterized the change as “sweeping changes” when in reality the immediate implementation of the call centre will result in no job loss, no wage loss, no change to hours of work and no change to job classifications or job descriptions. Any changes to terms and conditions of employment following the implementation will naturally be discussed with the union in accordance with the provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
“The parties worked hard to come to a tentative agreement that included positive changes for the membership,” said Kiley Bear, Director of Corporate. “We need a definitive response about the outstanding tentative agreement and I would expect the union would honor the right of their members to cast their vote.”
The City remains willing to share more information on the implementation of the Call Centre, however there are no changes to the terms and conditions of employment and therefore no reason to delay the vote on the tentative agreement.
“We know our employees are dedicated to their work and we want them to come back so we can move forwarded together to serve the people of Prince Albert,” added Bear.
