Prince Albert, SK. – The 2024 Terry Fox Award was presented to Ali Diehl at the City of Prince Albert Council meeting Monday night. The Terry Fox Award is presented annually to a young Prince Albert resident who emulates the traits and inspiration of Terry Fox.
Ali Diehl is fifteen years old and a student at Ecole St. Mary High School. Ali excels in the classroom and in the swimming pool and is an example of perseverance, talent and inspiration to her peers, family, friends, and in her community. Ali has been a member of the Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club since the age of seven, and her strength, determination, dedication and skill have propelled her to many outstanding achievements, including qualifying for all National meets at 13 and consistently medaling at the Speedos Canadian Championships as well as the Ken Demchuk Swimming Championships.
Ali achieved her World Para Swimming International Classification in 2023 and clinched gold in the 100-meter breaststroke for 18 and under girls. These successes are a testament to her ability to overcome adversity and her drive and passion.
Ali is a role model and a compassionate and empathetic person whose infectious enthusiasm and unwavering encouragement to her fellow swimmers and the broader sports community make her a most deserving candidate for the Terry Fox Award. Ali’s dream of representing Team Canada in the Paralympic Games is not just a personal goal but a reflection of her desire to inspire others and promote inclusivity in sport. Ali embodies the same values and spirit of resilience, determination, courage and selflessness as our national hero, Terry Fox.
The Terry Fox Award and Citation were established by the City of Prince Albert in 1981 to perpetuate the memory of Terry’s heroic achievement while acknowledging a local recipient with similar ideals. Citizens are invited to nominate people for this award each year.
