Arts and Culture

Event Description

The heart is culturally significant and universally recognizable and its shape is entrenched in our psyche as a cultural icon. The heart is found in clothing, accessories, architecture, art, video games, restaurant menus, and even on top of our morning lattes. The heart is a significant expression of a shared understanding; a feeling without words. It is a logograph, used to express a biological organ in its metaphorical or symbolic sense as the centre of emotion, including affection and love. It has a universally recognizable profile and meaning which connotes love. Hearts remind us of who we love and why. Hearts are known to be the center of life, and of all beings. It can take on an entity of its own, becoming broken, happy, wise, grieving, and healing. Residents will be invited to ponder the significance of the heart through a short narrative by the artist. With the foundation of the hearts shared understanding, participants will be asked to consider how culture and the arts contribute to their health & wellbeing. These written thoughts will be adhered to the large 4 X 5 X 3 ft community heart sculpture as a lasting statement of the vital need for culture in the lives and consciousness of humanity.

Event Posting Criteria

In addition to allowing residents and visitors the ability to find out what's happening in Prince Albert, this calendar is intended as a planning tool for event planners in the community. It is highly encouraged that event planners submit events as soon as dates are scheduled.

  • The calendar will be updated ONLY as events are submitted by organizers. Do not assume your event will posted because it is annual or well-known.
  • A submission form should be completed for each of the events you would like posted.
  • The City of Prince Albert will promote the purpose and intent of the calendar to ensure it is widely used and so that its intent is understood.
  • Events should be submitted as soon as scheduled; at least a month in advance is preferable. Events will be accepted a year or more in advance if they are scheduled.
  • Events should be posted on the business/organization’s website and/social media pages to ensure consistent coverage.

  • All events must be open to the general public.
  • With the exception of conferences and conventions in the business category, events held for single interest groups are not permitted.
  • Events that promote any religious organization; multi-faith or inter-faith events will be considered on an individual basis.

Events permitted on the calendar should fall into one of the following five categories:

  1. Annual/Special Events (Blue)
  2. Sport Tournaments and Events (Purple)
  3. Arts/Culture (Orange)
  4. Business Events (Gold)
  5. City Meetings and Initiatives (Green)

For more details on the categories, please see the Full Calendar of Events Posting Criteria

Events cannot include regular programming including sports or arts classes or camps, local tournaments, suppers, etc.
