Event Description

Special Guest Author Sara Leach Sara Leach is an award-winning author of books for children. Her newest book, Penguin Days, illustrated by Rebecca Bender, is the sequel to Slug Days, which received an Honourable Mention in the Foreword INDIES Book Awards for Juvenile Fiction and was nominated for the Chocolate Lily Book Award. Her middle grade novel Count Me In has been translated into four languages, and won the Red Cedar Book Award. Sara has been an elementary school teacher-librarian and classroom teacher for over twenty years. She is a frequent presenter at elementary schools and public libraries, both in person and through Skype. Even though Sara’s grandparents, mother and uncle were all writers, as a child she disliked writing and wanted to be an engineer. It wasn’t until she took an education course in university that she realized writing could be kind of fun (and that engineering wasn’t for her). Ten years after that she saw a bald eagle nearly eat a seal pup for lunch and was inspired to write her first book for children. Sara lives in Whistler, BC, where she works as a teacher-librarian. She enjoys skiing, hiking and biking in the local mountains with her two teenaged children and husband. Students in grades five to seven are invited to attend this special author presentation by Sara Leach. Registration is limited to eighty students and their teachers. Public is welcome to drop in. Space is limited. For more information about Sara Leach and TD Canadian Children’s Book Week, please visit www.bookweek.ca. www.jmcpl.ca/online-programs-calendar/

Event Posting Criteria

In addition to allowing residents and visitors the ability to find out what's happening in Prince Albert, this calendar is intended as a planning tool for event planners in the community. It is highly encouraged that event planners submit events as soon as dates are scheduled.

NOTES FOR EVENT ORGANIZERS:

  • The calendar will be updated ONLY as events are submitted by organizers. Do not assume your event will posted because it is annual or well-known.
  • A submission form should be completed for each of the events you would like posted.
  • The City of Prince Albert will promote the purpose and intent of the calendar to ensure it is widely used and so that its intent is understood.
  • Events should be submitted as soon as scheduled; at least a month in advance is preferable. Events will be accepted a year or more in advance if they are scheduled.
  • Events should be posted on the business/organization’s website and/social media pages to ensure consistent coverage.

WHAT CAN BE SUBMITTED

  • All events must be open to the general public.
  • With the exception of conferences and conventions in the business category, events held for single interest groups are not permitted.
  • Events that promote any religious organization; multi-faith or inter-faith events will be considered on an individual basis.

Events permitted on the calendar should fall into one of the following five categories:

  1. Annual/Special Events (Blue)
  2. Sport Tournaments and Events (Purple)
  3. Arts/Culture (Orange)
  4. Business Events (Gold)
  5. City Meetings and Initiatives (Green)
