Event Description

Ken Lyons: Connecting with the Source John V. Hicks Gallery February 1st – 23rd, 2019 Opening reception: Saturday February 2nd, 1:00 PM. Ken Lyons is a local artist and former music and visual art educator who has studied with Wynona Mulcaster, Ted Godwin, Geoff Poklin, and Mina Forsyth. He holds fine arts majors in his Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Saskatchewan. Since the 1970s, Ken’s work has been displayed in group exhibitions throughout Saskatchewan. Connecting with the Source shows the variety of styles and subjects in which he has practiced over the past three decades. In this exhibition, Ken shares the influences and inspirations that have shaped his practice. His work is informed by a variety of sources, such as the regional landscape, buildings like churches and heritage sites, the garden, objects around the house, and even Greek Orthodox icons. For Ken, painting is both an exercise in depicting the beauty that he encounters in his life, as well as a method of connecting with a deeper and more mysterious source. This manifests in his constant need to create art. In the act of composing a picture, mixing a colour, or simply brushing a stroke of paint across a canvas, Ken’s practice is a journey of images opening up and coming alive: the experiences that show him the possibilities of expressing his world in many ways. In this, he is connected to the source of a creation and a sense of wonder that is beyond the material world.

Event Posting Criteria

In addition to allowing residents and visitors the ability to find out what's happening in Prince Albert, this calendar is intended as a planning tool for event planners in the community. It is highly encouraged that event planners submit events as soon as dates are scheduled.

  • The calendar will be updated ONLY as events are submitted by organizers. Do not assume your event will posted because it is annual or well-known.
  • A submission form should be completed for each of the events you would like posted.
  • The City of Prince Albert will promote the purpose and intent of the calendar to ensure it is widely used and so that its intent is understood.
  • Events should be submitted as soon as scheduled; at least a month in advance is preferable. Events will be accepted a year or more in advance if they are scheduled.
  • Events should be posted on the business/organization’s website and/social media pages to ensure consistent coverage.

  • All events must be open to the general public.
  • With the exception of conferences and conventions in the business category, events held for single interest groups are not permitted.
  • Events that promote any religious organization; multi-faith or inter-faith events will be considered on an individual basis.

Events permitted on the calendar should fall into one of the following five categories:

  1. Annual/Special Events (Blue)
  2. Sport Tournaments and Events (Purple)
  3. Arts/Culture (Orange)
  4. Business Events (Gold)
  5. City Meetings and Initiatives (Green)

For more details on the categories, please see the Full Calendar of Events Posting Criteria
