Prince Albert Municipal Library Status: Overview

John M. Cuelenaere Public Library (JMCPL) is following the process set out in the Public Libraries Act 1996 to establish itself as a municipal library to better position itself for future growth and add branches. The first step in this process is a motion of Council. This was passed on June 27, 2016:

The following is the process that is being undertaken for the proposed boundary change:

PHASE I (Section 4.1(1),(2) and (3)) -  COMPLETE

1.         Two consecutive Public Notices must be included in each of the newspapers within the Library Region.  The Public Notice advises that the City of Prince Albert is proposing a boundary change for the John M. Cuelenaere Public Library (PDF available here)

 

2.         Public Notice be provided to:

            a.         Local libraries

            b.         Regional library

            c.         Northern library

            d.         Public Library Boards

            e.         Councils of municipalities

 

3.         Any person may file a written objection to the proposed changes. If you would like to submit your written objection, it is required to be provided to the City Clerk prior to 4:45pm on October 28, 2016.  

 

PHASE II (Section 4.1(4), (5), (6)) - UNDERWAY:

 

1.         Two consecutive Public Notices must be included in each of the newspapers within the Library Region.  The (PDF available here)

 

2.         Public Notice be provided to:

            a.         Local libraries - complete

            b.         Regional library - complete

            c.         Northern library - complete

            d.         Public Library Boards - complete

            e.         Councils of municipalities – complete

 

3.         City Council, at its meeting to be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017 at City Hall, will consider all submissions both written and verbal (in person) respecting the proposed boundary change.  Written requests are preferred to be provided to the City Clerk by 4:45 pm on Tuesday, January 17 2017.  Verbal submissions shall be heard during the Public Hearing portion of the meeting.
