The City is undertaking the systematic and unidirectional flushing (hydraulic flushing) of various zones of the water distribution system.
Hydraulic Flushing (also known as Watermain Flushing) is the process used to clean watermains. Water system valves are turned off to isolate a section of the watermain and water is then flushed through in one direction at a high speed to produce a scouring action that removes built-up sediment in the water main. The City cleans watermains to improve water quality by removing sediment.
Work is scheduled to occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Residents will receive an informational pamphlet and yellow door hanger 24 hours in advance of the flushing occurring in their area and are asked to not use their water until they receive a blue door hanger indicating they can resume water consumption. The City is also working with businesses in the impacted area.
After the flushing process has been completed, there may still be a discoloration of the water and residents are asked to run their cold water taps for five to ten minutes.
Zone Two of the program is slated for September of 2017.
Once again we would like to thank the residents of the City for their cooperation during the upcoming Hydraulic Flushing Program.
