On behalf of City Council, Prince Albert Mayor Greg Dionne would like to express condolences to the friends and family of former Mayor of Prince Albert, Jim Stiglitz. “It is with sadness that we learned of Jim’s passing,” said Mayor Dionne. “He served Prince Albert for many years and we were Councillors together before he was elected as Mayor.”
Jim Stiglitz served as a City Councillor from 1994 until 2003 when he was elected as Mayor of Prince Albert. He served as Mayor until October 2006. During his tenure as Mayor, Stiglitz championed a strategy to combat addictions in the community, and in particular Crystal Meth which was on the rise in Prince Albert at the time. He was also instrumental in leading municipal officials from across the Province into pursuing the Provincial Crystal Meth Prevention Strategy.
As Mayor, he oversaw Prince Albert’s Centennial Celebrations (2004) and he was a member of the Prince Albert Board of Police Commissioners and the Joint Planning Committee with Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation. He also represented the City of Prince Albert as a Board Member for the Northern Lights Community Development Corporation and the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association.
Previous to his term as Mayor, he served as the Chair of the Race Relations and Social Issues Committee from 1995 to 2003.
