Prince Albert Volunteers Celebrated!

Prince Albert, Sk. – The City of Prince Albert has a vibrant base of volunteers with many being recognized during Volunteer Week. The host committees of the 2018 WBSC World Junior Men’s Softball Championships, Myrna Nagy, Teena Polle and volunteers of the Prince Albert Raiders have been in the spot light for Volunteer Week which is winding down.

Host Committee wins Tourism Saskatchewan Award as Marquee Event of the Year

The 282 volunteers that executed the 2018 WBSC World Junior Men’s Softball Championships July 7-15 at Max Power Ball Parks were recognized April 11th when that event was named the Tourism Saskatchewan Marquee Event of the Year in Saskatoon. Co-Chair Felix Casavant and Finance Co-Chair Brett Casavant accepted the award for the province’s top event that generated significant economic, social and cultural benefits for our province in 2018.

The 2018 World Junior Softball Championships also were a Finalist for the Canadian Sport Event of the Year at the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance PRESTIGE Awards last month in Ottawa.

Myrna Nagy & Teena Polle receive 2019 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medals

In Regina, Tuesday, Prince Albert residents Myrna Nagy and Teena Polle each received a Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal from Thomas Molloy, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. These medals go to extraordinary citizens for their outstanding contributions to Saskatchewan.

Myrna Nagy volunteered for decades for the Prince Albert Chamber of Commerce, Prince Albert Winter Festival and Prince Albert Kinette Club, among others. Teena Polle is a longtime volunteer at the EA Rawlinson Centre for the Arts, Victoria Hospital and Royal Canadian Legion.

Prince Albert Raider Volunteers to work tonight

The community owned Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League have many volunteers at each of their games working the front gate, as off-ice officials, selling 50/50’s and in many operational areas of the club keeping them sustainable. Those volunteers will be at work tonight when the Raiders host the Saskatoon Blades at 7:00 p.m. in Game #5 of the Eastern Division Championship Series at the Art Hauser Centre.

“One of the best features of our city is our passionate volunteer base”, said Jody Boulet, Director of Community Services. “During National Volunteer week it is great to recognize all of the many hard working volunteers, and to have a number in the spotlight being recognized with awards, and for what the volunteers do for the Raiders, is very timely.”
