The City’s snow plowing crews will be moving into residential areas starting Tuesday, December 4, 2018 beginning with the West Flat neighbourhood.
“We’ve had considerable snow fall already this year and with the warmer conditions the soft snow is making it difficult for vehicles to get through neighbourhoods,” said Brent Kennedy, Roadways Manager. “To improve driving conditions and avoid rutting and icy conditions when it does cool down, we want to get into the neighbourhoods a little earlier than we typically do.”
In order to ensure snow is plowed effectively and efficiently, it is essential that parked cars are moved from the street prior to graders coming through. To assist, no parking signs will be put up in the neighbourhood at least 12 hours in advance of crews coming to plow snow. Parked cars that remain on the street after 12 hours will risk fines and towing. Fines start at $50. Towing charges are additional.
Garbage and recycling schedules are considered when determining what neighborhoods to target first so as to avoid clearing around curbside bins. Residents should also take note that residential plowing will result in snow accumulation along the curbs (windrows) which may impact on-street parking in areas.
