By bvance on 11/9/2018

Prince Albert, Sk. City of Prince Albert Recreation Manager Derek Blais has accepted the position of Director of Parks & Recreation with the City of Moose Jaw. Blais has been in his role with the City of Prince Albert since June 2014.

Blais has been instrumental in developing many recreation plans and projects during his tenure in Prince Albert as well as overseeing operations at City recreation facilities. Some of the 2018 projects under Blais include the expansion at the Alfred Jenkins Field House (inclusive playground, soccer pitches, Beach Volleyball Courts and Outdoor Basketball Courts), and served as one of the key representatives with Project Triple Play and the WBSC Junior Men’s Softball World Championships (diamond construction and event operation).

“Derek Blais had a very positive impact on Community Services over his 4 and a half years with the department”, commented Jody Boulet, Director of Community Services. “His work ethic and professional management were very much appreciated. His ability to work with many community groups was a tremendous asset for all involved. It is exciting to see him get rewarded for his work with this opportunity in Moose Jaw and we wish Derek and his family continued success.”

“I’m not surprised we are losing staff to other cities. We have a very strong recruitment and training process,” said Mayor Greg Dionne. “I am very proud of the work that Derek has done for the organization and I wish him all the best in his new position.”

“I am very thankful to the City of Prince Albert for providing the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally,” said Derek Blais. “I would like to extend a big thank you to all City personnel and Community Organizations for your tremendous support. It was an extremely difficult decision as we have really enjoyed our time in Prince Albert. I am very proud of the recreation projects that have been completed over the past four and a half years and know that this positive work will continue because of the strong team that is in place.”

Blais’ last day with the City of Prince Albert will be December 20th before starting his new position in Moose Jaw in the New Year.
