Bells of Peace to Ring Sunday at 5pm at the Prince Albert Arts Centre

By Communications on 11/9/2018

The City or Prince Albert would like to advise that, in cooperation with the Prince Albert Royal Canadian Legion, the bells at the Prince Albert Arts Centre, located at 1010 Central Avenue, will toll on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 5:00pm as part of the Royal Canadian Legion’s Bells of Peace initiative which commemorates the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

Bells were used as a celebratory announcement that the war had ended. This was common at the end of both WWI and WWII. The Legion’s intent is to have every bell in every community across Canada ring in unison or independently (within each community) 100 times at sunset on Remembrance Day.

The bells will be tolled 100 times with 5 seconds between tolls.

The Royal Canadian Legion Bells of Peace Initiative
Bells call us wake, to pray, to work, to arms, to feast and, in times of crisis, to come together. On November 11, 1918, the ringing of church bells erupted spontaneously across the country as an outpouring of relief that four years of war had come to an end. The Bells of Peace initiative is designed to emulate that moment of remembrance in honour of our Veterans who served in WWI.
