City Partners with Local Organizers to Host First Ever Repair Café in Prince Albert

By Communications on 2/27/2018

Monthly events to help residents repair household items

The City of Prince Albert will be working in collaboration with local organizers to host the first ever Repair Café in Prince Albert this Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Margo Fournier Centre (1211 1st Ave West) from 1-4pm. Repair Café is an international initiative aimed at encouraging repairs to household appliances rather than throwing them out. Volunteers will be available to work together to help do the repairs.

“Reducing waste going to our landfill is an important part of keeping costs down and slowing the need for landfill expansion,” said Nisar Ghani, Sanitation Manager for the City of Prince Albert. “When this idea was presented, we saw it as a great opportunity to support local people willing to take a lead role in assisting others to reduce waste.”

Over time event organizers are hoping to see the program grow in capacity. For the first event there will be four tables set up:

1.    Small Furniture

2.    Electrical

3.    Sewing

4.    General Repair

Those that do not have items to repair are still invited to come down for a coffee and check out how the process works. More information on the event can be found at or on the Facebook event page at
