Final budget to be set following budget deliberations in November
Administration for The City of Prince Albert has released the proposed 2018 Municipal General Fund Budget. The total proposed budget is $70.3 million which represents a $2.4 million increase from 2017 and a 2 percent property tax increase for 2018. The budget document, which is available online, includes both summarized as well as detailed information about the factors that are driving changes in the budget values.
“As always we need to stress that this is a proposed budget and is subject to change,” said Steve Brown, Director of Financial Services. “City Council will take into account public input and its own priorities when reviewing the budget. The final tax rate will be determined sometime following Council deliberations in November.”
“The 2018 Budget was very challenging with the recent funding cuts announced by the Province this past spring, however staff continue to look for improvements in operations and revenues,” said Brown. “Some of the improvements included in the 2018 Budget are property tax adjustments corrections, which is properties that have seen their taxes increase due to their assessments being corrected.”
The budget documents this year have been prepared in a format very similar to that of 2017. “Information is broken down into functional areas rather than only by department and with more detail,” said Brown. “The format provides City Council with sufficient information for each functional area so they have a stronger sense of what is driving budget changes in each area.”
External agencies and the public are invited to review the budget documents and provide feedback during public consultations. The proposed 2018 budget is available at https://eagenda.citypa.ca/ams/princealbert/Meeting.html?month=10&year=2017 and a summary version is available at the Financial Services Department at City Hall.
